Central College shaved seven strokes off its first-round score in rainy conditions to win the men’s golf title at the 24-team Dubuque Bishops Buffet Invitational Sunday.

Climbing from Saturday’s third-place standing, the Dutch finished at 297-290—587. Three strokes behind, Mt. Mercy was second at 298-292—590. St. Ambrose University was third at 297-298—595. Iowa Conference rival Dubuque shared seventh at 311-309—620.

Brent Goodenow tied his career best, firing a 2-under-par 70 to finish tied for second at 74-70—144.

Central plays host to the Ryerson Fall Classic Friday and Saturday at the Bos Landen Golf Club in Pella.
