With the first win of the season under their belts, the Pella football team aims for a win in the Class 3A District 7 opener when they travel to Chariton tonight. Pella head coach Jay McKinstrey says the Chargers defense will create some challenges for his offense – particularly in the running game.

“Chariton is a team that likes to put a lot of guys in the box. Both games this year – even when they played Creston, who spread the ball and used some formations with a lot of receivers – Chariton stayed in that five-man front. They wanted to keep a lot of pressure on the quarterback, and they tried to keep a lot of guys in the box to stop the run,” said McKinstrey.

“They [Chariton] really did a good job in the first two games stopping Creston’s run and Albia’s run, so we’re certainly going to have to capitalize on some things that we’ve been working on to expand our offense a little bit.”

Chariton is 0-2 entering tonight’s contest, while Pella is 1-1. You can hear the game live on kniakrls.com tonight with Jamie Brockman and Randy Sikkema providing coverage; beginning at 6:45 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
