While Pella Christian was able to pick up a win last Friday over Clarinda, it didn’t come easy. The Cardinals stacked their defense close to the line to slow the Eagles’ running game, which may be putting more emphasis on improving the passing game.

Head coach Rich Kacmarynski says all elements of the aerial attack need to come together for the throwing game to become successful.

“It’s really kind of a breakdown in three areas. One, we are not protecting Adam [Howerzyl] the way we need to. Number two, I think Adam is not as accurate as he needs to be,” said Kacmarynski. “We’re missing on our throws a little bit, and also – number three – our receivers need to make some plays for us. We’re seeing a lot of man-cover [defense], and they’ve got to beat man-cover and get open; so we need to get better on that front too.”

The Pella Christian football team is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in District play entering Friday’s contest at Interstate-35 in Truro.
