Pella High will try and stay unbeaten in Class 3A District 7 football Friday night, when the Panthers of Mount Pleasant make the trip to the Tulip City. Though not quite as strong as they were last season, Mount Pleasant again features a number of skilled athletes, particularly at the receiver, defensive end, and running back positions.

Little Dutch head coach Jay McKinstrey says he likes the progress his team has been making recently, and says that will need to continue in order to beat the Panthers.

“We’re going to keep trying to do what we’ve been working on for the last five weeks; just trying to be a team that wants to be physical. We’re going to try and keep things simple, but you might see a few new wrinkles tonight too,” says McKinstrey.

“I think we’ve been doing that for about three weeks now – trying to progress this as far as x’s and o’s go – without losing the mentality that we’re going to take the ball and we’re going to move the ball on the ground. We’ve got to play with the mindset of being very physical and very fast.”

Mount Pleasant is 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the District, while Pella is 4-1 and 3-0 in league play. You can hear Friday night’s game streamed live at kniakrls.com with Eric Gotschall and Randy Sikkema there for the call. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., with kickoff at Pella High set for 7:30.
