The first two wins of the volleyball season came on Saturday for the Pella High volleyball team, as the Lady Dutch worked their way to a 2-2 split in tournament play at Southeast Polk. Pella notched wins over Des Moines East and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson, but fell to Cedar Rapids Jefferson and host Southeast Polk.

Shannon Ewing led the Lady Dutch offense with 15 kills, with Katie Sunderman and Kim Korver close behind with 13 and 12 kills, respectively; while Morgan Ernst dished out 47 assists. Defensively, Taelor Rempe tallied 30 kills to lead Pella, and Maddy Scholten had a strong showing from the service line, hammering home 10 aces.

Pella’s record is now 2-10 overall, entering their first Little Hawkeye Conference match of the season, when they host Newton on Tuesday.
