It wasn’t quite as lopsided as the previous week, but the Central College football team earned another convincing victory on Saturday, downing Cornell 49-17.

Pella native Spencer Boeyink intercepted a pass on the second play from scrimmage, leading to a Ross Doehrmann 4-yard touchdown run. The Rams countered with a long drive that led to a botched field goal attempt turned touchdown to tie the score at 7. After that, it was all Dutch.

They used a strong rushing attack to build a 35-10 halftime lead, including a 2-yard option keeper by Nate Snead, a 1-yard run by Josh Osborn, a 5-yard plunge by Preston West, another score by Osborn – this time a 64-yarder.

Central was sluggish in the 3rd quarter Saturday, allowing the Rams to cut the deficit to 35-17, but Danny Sampson returned an interception 35 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown, and Preston West put it on ice with a 4-yard run.

All told, Central ran for 340 yards, including 115 from Doehrmann and 95 from Osborn. The Dutch are 6-2 overall this season, 5-1 in the Iowa Conference, which is good for a first-place tie with Dubuque and Coe.
