In a story previously reported by KNIA/KRLS News, authorities are still investigating a new Internet scam that targets users through social media. Last week, the Pella Police Department reported they have received complaints from young Facebook users being contacted by a person identified as Dan Worthington. The Iowa Crimes Against Children Taskforce is handling the investigation. Mike Ferjack with the state Attorney General’s Office says they’ve had numerous reports about teens being contacted about an internship with a movie production company. Ferjack says social media like Facebook or Twitter are increasingly being used in Internet scams like this. He says a good dose of common sense is necessary to avoid becoming a victim, adding that Hollywood producers wouldn’t be cold calling for internships.
