A Central College staffer was recently recognized for her culinary talents by the Iowa Restaurant Association. Kayleen Vander Veen, who’s worked in Dining Services in Central for the past four years, took the People’s Choice Award in a competition in September. Vander Veen was one of eight chefs charged with creating a meal including beef rib-eye and two soy dishes. Vander Veen’s winning dish included pepper-seared rib-eye with celery root puree, served with edamame and sweet corn succotash and cognac butter accented tobacco onion rings.
