Both the women’s and men’s golf teams at Central College started their respective tournaments in strong fashion yesterday. Competing in the Iowa Conference Women’s Golf Championship, the Dutch are one stroke behind first-place Wartburg; led by Sarah Paulson’s 3-over-par 75 that topped the leaderboard after the opening round.

Paulson is going for her third Iowa Conference women’s golf title and holds a three-stroke lead. Knoxville native Kaurie Kincaid shot a season-best 78 to earn a share of second place, and Kelsey Van Tasell – a freshman from Pella High – also shot a career best with an 85 to grab a share of 16th place.

The second round of the 72-hole tournament will continue today at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.

Meanwhile the Central men’s golf team shot a combined 301 to take the team lead after the first round of the Ryerson Fall Classic at the Bos Landen Golf Club. The Dutch fought against the wind for much of the day Friday, and are hoping for better conditions when the final round of the tournament resumes this morning.
