A long-time assistant coach and faculty member at Central College will be honored during this afternoon’s football game, while the Dutch try to clinch their 50th winning football season.  It’s Dick Bowzer Day at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium for Central’s home finale against Cornell College.

Bowzer was among the most loyal coaches in all of college football, serving as an assistant for the Dutch over 42 seasons.  He played for hall of fame coach Ron Schipper at Jackson High School in Michigan, and followed his coach to Pella, where he earned 11 varsity letters in athletics before joining the exercise science department staff.

Today is also the final home game for this year’s senior members of the football team, whose 29 members will try to go unbeaten on their home turf in 2011.

Following a 70-7 beat down of Loras last weekend, Central is 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the Iowa Conference, while Cornell is winless in league play and 2-4 overall.

Trevor Castle will provide live play-by-play of today’s game on 92.1 fm KRLS and on kniakrls.com, starting at 12:45 p.m. Kickoff from Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
