A pair of local volleyball teams begin the postseason squaring off against each other, as Pella Christian hosts PCM tonight in the opening round of the Class 2A Regional Volleyball Tournament. The No. 8-ranked Lady Eagles enter the tournament after sweeping their way through the Knoxville tournament this past Saturday and are 25-4 overall.

Pella Christian head coach Cindy Nikkel says the Mustangs will force her team to execute well on offense and defense and match their hustle.

“I got a chance to see them [PCM] play in the Pella Tournament, and they play really scrappy ball,” says Nikkel. “For us, it’s just a matter of running our quicker offense and putting the ball away; but ready to know that balls are going to come back over here and there, so just play to the whistle.”

PCM is 7-16 on the season after going 1-1 last week in matches with Colfax-Mingo and Clarke.

Tonight’s opening round volleyball match will be broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS with Eric Gotschall providing the play-by-play. Opening serve between Pella Christian and PCM is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Pella Christian High School.
