The word “dominant” served as a fitting adjective to describe the performance of the Pella football team last night, as the Little Dutch simply out-played Fairfield in a runaway 43-0 victory.

A 15-yard touchdown scamper by Chris Brogden started the scoring party for the Little Dutch, as five different Pella players found the end zone throughout the brisk October evening. While the offense put the numbers on the scoreboard, it was the special teams play and the effort of the defense that was simply sublime. The Little Dutch started many of their drives on the Trojans’ side of the field, while a suffocating defense held Fairfield to -5 yards of net offense and just a handful of first downs.

Pella tallied 335 total yards of offense, 245 of which came in the first half. A very balanced attack was led by Austin Fuller’s 50 yards on eight carries, while Grant Gustafson added 38 yards on the ground, and one rushing and one receiving touchdown

Pella quarterback Jacob De Waard completed 7-of-11 passes to six receivers for 102 yards and two touchdowns, with the other TD toss landing in the open arms of tight end Jake Wassenaar; who finished the night with two catches for 28 yards.

Wassenaar also helped create a nightmarish evening for Fairfield quarterback Dillon Fry, intercepting one pass and sacking, hurrying, or chasing down Fry numerous times.

The victory earned Pella High the Class 3A District 7 title, as the Little Dutch are now 7-1 overall and 6-0 in league play, entering the final week of the season – a home contest with Fort Madison.
