Any fan or opponent that has faced the Pella Christian volleyball team on the Lady Eagles’ home court this season knows that there’s more than just familiar surroundings that gives Pella Christian the home court advantage. Spurred by a raucous – but respectful – student section, the fan support at Pella Christian High has reached a level of excitement (and noise) that is normally reserved for State Tournament matches.

Lady Eagles’ head coach Cindy Nikkel says students that are friends and classmates of her athletes have been a lot of fun to have in the stands this season.

“The girls just really feel their support. Even when we’ve been down in games, they’re still cheering for us; and it’s not like they just sit on their butt and wait for something good to happen. They’re supporting us all the way through, and I think that takes a lot of character and a lot of enthusiasm,” says Nikkel.

“It’s a good group. The ‘Mad Hatters’ – as they call themselves – have started a good tradition here at PC, and I think they’ll follow that up with continued greatness as we continue through our season, because they’ve been there at every home game, loud and strong,” adds Nikkel

The Pella Christian volleyball team is 19-4 overall following a loss at Oskaloosa on Tuesday night. That dropped the Lady Eagles one spot to No. 8 in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union poll, with Western Christian holding on to the top spot for the seventh consecutive week.
