History was made last night in Bondurant as the PCM Mustangs finished their regular season undefeated for the first time since the merger of the Prairie City and Monroe school districts.

The Mustangs capped up the historic run with a 34-7 victory against the Bluejays in a game that started slow for PCM, after winning the toss and picking up great field position on the return. After a 16-play drive covered just 40 yards, head coach Greg Bonnett elected to go for it on fourth down and goal from the Bondurant-Farrar 10 yard line. They failed to convert, though, and turned the ball over on downs.

After picking up great field position once again on their second drive, PCM found the right combination for offensive success, as Hutch Burns ran in for his first score of the evening to open the scoring. After another three and out for Bondurant-Farrar, Bo Clymer took a punt return all the way back for 74 yards to give PCM a 15-0.

That lead quickly decreased, though, after a great drive put together by the Bluejays; led by their tailback Colten Halder. The Mustangs went into the locker room with a 15-7 lead.

In the second half, PCM came out determined to add to the lead and were able to tack on a quick score from Hutch Burns from 38 yards out – his second of the night. Burns went on to rush for 220 yards, giving him over 1000 on the year.

After Burns added his second score, quarterback Joel Wiggins – in his first game back after a leg injury – added a rushing touchdown of his own; which was followed up by another Burns TD.

PCM will play C-M-B in Monroe next Wednesday, as the Class 2A football playoffs get underway.
