Pella High’s cross country teams continued their overpowering march through the season with another across-the-board sweep at the Norwalk Invitational yesterday. Gabi Meirick again led the Lady Dutch with a first-place individual finish, as Pella placed all five scores in the top nine for a combined score of 27.

The story was much the same on the boys’ side, as Zach Buchheit added another first-place finish to his resume to lead the Little Dutch – who put all seven Varsity runners in the top ten on their way to a team score of 21.

Among those leaders for the Pella boys was Alex Ropes, who has put together a pair of fourth-place finishes in the last week.

“He’s really running well. Alex was our alternate at the State Meet last year, [and] was part of the whole process, but you could just see a real strong desire in his senior year to be a part of what’s happening,” said Pella Head Coach Doug Cutler. “He’s just running fantastic, and I’m really proud of what Alex is doing.”

Pella’s JV teams were also dominant, each recording perfect scores as it was all green jerseys at the front of both races. Pella head coach Doug Cutler said he was glad to see his teams perform well on the Norwalk course, as they’ll be right back there in one week for the Little Hawkeye Conference championships.
