The Central College football team rallied from 16 points down and earned a last minute 33-30 win over Buena Vista in front of the home fans Saturday afternoon at Schipper Stadium.

The Beavers took advantage of an interception, a fumble and a blocked punt to grab a 16-0 nothing lead early in the second quarter, and they led 30-20 at intermission despite a Josh Osborn 54 yard touchdown sprint, and scoring runs of 4 and 73 yards from Nate Snead.

Neither team scored in the third, and the Dutch got within 30-23 when Kevin Sheldon nailed a 40-yard field goal early in the fourth.  Preston West’s 36-yard touchdown run tied it, and the Dutch got their first lead of the game with just over two minutes remaining on a 19-yard field goal by Sheldon. Trevor Castle called the game live on 92.1 KRLS Saturday afternoon.

After Sheldon’s field goal, the Beavers returned the kick 55 yards to the Central 47, but the Dutch came up with 2 sacks, and stopped a 4th down pass one yard short of a first down.  The furious comeback lifts Central’s record to 4-2, and they’re 3-1 in the Iowa Conference.

Hear more about the game, and next Saturday’s game at Loras, when Dutch head coach Jeff McMartin joins us tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Applebee’s for the Central College Radio Coaches Corner on KNIA/KRLS.
