From gruelling two-a-day workouts in the summer heat to clashing with a top-tier team on a rainy November night, this past season has contained a number of tough settings for the Pella High football team, though none may be as difficult as the dreaded end-of-season equipment check-out process.

Little Dutch head football coach Jay McKinstrey says turning in helmets and pads signals the end of a season that has seen a group of athletes really bond and come together as a family. He adds that while the process is hardest on the seniors, it hurts for everyone – including the coaches – but says the team as a whole is handling it well.

Pella’s 25-13 loss to ADM in Monday’s 3A Quarterfinal ended a season that saw the Little Dutch claim a District title and finish with a 10-2 overall record.
