Pella Lineman Says ADM’s Defensive Front Presents Many Challenges

Behind a skilled offensive line, the Pella football team has racked up nearly 3200 yards of offense on the ground this season, and it’s unlikely that they’ll deviate much from a run-heavy attack on Monday when the Little Dutch face ADM in the Class 3A Quarterfinals.

Jacob De Waard, who plays center for Pella High, says the line will need to be able to make adjustments against the Tigers defensive front if they hope to be proficient in the running game.

“I think we’re going to have to be able to adjust on the line of scrimmage to the different fronts that their defense brings,” says De Waard. “In order for us to be able to pound the ball, we’re going to have to be able to switch who we’re blocking, and be able to be consistent with that, even if they’re moving around on us. We just have to buy into our game plan and really focus this week in practice.”

Pella High enters Monday’s quarterfinal game with a record of 10-1 following playoff wins over Perry and Norwalk, while ADM boasts an 11-0 mark following wins over Fairfield and Oskaloosa.
