Thanksgiving is this Thursday and it’s important to keep fire safety in mind as well as food safety. According to the National Fire Prevention Association Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires nationally, cooking fires make up about 40% of home fires overall. The meal can be a big ordeal, and often times there are many cooks in the kitchen which can be a fire hazard. Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkum says that it is important to be prepared with fire prevention equipment. He told KNIA/KRLS News that the best way to put out a grease fire on a stove top is to cover it completely with a soaking wet towel.
