Early PCM Run Allows Lady Mustangs To Win Big Over Knoxville

An 18-4 first quarter outburst by P-C-M allowed the Mustangs to cruise past Knoxville in girls basketball last night 58-25. P-C-M’s balanced scoring also made life difficult for Knoxville as the Panthers found it hard to shut down P-C-M’s offense and struggled against the Mustangs man-to-man. One thing Coach Bret Grier was concerned about was how his young team would react to their first road game, and how well they could come back from a tough loss on Tuesday. Grier said he was pleased with both. Knoxville Coach Jim Utiermarkt was trying everything to get his team to stay within striking distance, even putting in a whole new five players with about two minutes remaining in the first half. He says the new five did some things well and help stabilize the game. Lydia Anderson who was one of the five off the bench led Knoxville in scoring with ten points, while Courtney Ryan likely earned the hustle award for the night as she made several dives for loose balls and grabbed rebounds that allowed Knoxville to continue possessions. Meanwhile a balanced P-C-M attack was led by Krisha Houseman who scored 13 points, Kelsey Townsend had 11 and Courtney Van Houweling put in ten. P-C-M improves to 3-1 on the season and will host Jefferson-Scranton tonight while Knoxville drops to 0-3 and will host Davis County tonight.
