The Saints were marching in at Melcher-Dallas High School last night, as the Melcher-Dallas Saints closed out the pre-Christmas schedule with a varsity double header against another Saints squad – Mormon Trail.

The Melcher-Dallas girls relied heavily upon their defense to claim a 35-29 win in the opener. Sydney Wilson led the offense with 10 points, and also came up with 6 steals. Delaney Jensen added 6 points and 5 blocks; and Mackenzie Suntken added 6 more points, pulled down 8 rebounds and swatted away three Mormon Trail shots.

The win pushes the Melcher-Dallas girls to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in the Bluegrass Conference before the holiday break.

The boys game saw Melcher-Dallas have one of their best chances to earn a win this season slip away from them, as they ran out of gas in a 64-55 overtime loss to Mormon Trail.

Trailing 47-35 with four minutes remaining in the game, the Melcher-Dallas boys staged an improbable comeback to tie the game at 53-53 at the end of regulation, but strugged in the extra frame.

Kenneth Wadle had a team-best 18 points in his first game back from injury, while Chase Wetterling added another 14 points. The Melcher-Dallas boys enter the Christmas break at 0-8 overall.
