If local wrestling fans look closely, the schedule for the Knoxville Wrestling Squad does not have the Little Hawkeye Conference meet this season. That is not a misprint, this season the conference will be decided by the dual meets only. Knoxville Coach Ron Peterson says the Little Hawkeye, South Central, and Southeast Conferences got together to form a “super tournament” in Fairfield on January 28th. While not totally in favor of dropping the L-H-C meet, he sees this larger meet as a way to prepare for the district. Knoxville will see teams from the South central Conference including P-C-M and Clarke among others, and the Southeast with Fairfield, Washington and Mount Pleasant among some of the schools, and of course all of the cast of characters in the L-H-C. The Panthers are 1-1 in the conference dual meet season with a loss to conference favorite Grinnell and a win over Pella. Peterson says winning the conference dual meet title will be tough with Grinnell now out to a 2-0 record and likely not to lose anymore.
