It seemed to take a while to get there, but the Pella Christian girls basketball team is satisfied with carrying a 5-1 overall record into the Christmas break. Spastic scheduling spread those six games over a four-week span, and Lady Eagles’ head coach Kevin Van Maanen says the team has grown since the season opener in the last full week of November.

“I think we’re getting pretty close to where we want to be. We lost the first game to a good PCM team, and I think we learned a lot as a team from that game, and think we’ve made pretty good strides since then,” said Van Maanen.

“Now we’ve got conference [teams] coming up, and they’ll pose a different challenge for us. Hopefully we can use those games to just keep getting better, and hopefully by the end of January we’re a pretty good basketball team.”

The Pella Christian girls are currently 2-0 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, and resume their schedule on January 6th against Newton.
