Pleasantville’s basketball teams were looking to build on the success of Tuesday’s wins against Wayne, but left Martensdale-St. Mary’s last night with a split instead; as the girls fell 71-50 and the boys claimed a 73-62 win in a pair of games heard live on kniakrls.com.

In the girls’ contest, Pleasantville overcame a double-digit deficit in the first quarter to pull within three points at the half, but too many turnovers in the third and fourth quarters sank the Trojans, as they were out-scored 53-25 over the final 16 minutes.

The loss drops the Trojans to 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in the Pride of Iowa Conference. They’ll host Interstate-35 on Tuesday.

Pleasantville got 18 points out of their perimeter players to compliment another strong night by Collin Thomas and Hunter Van Haalen to help the Trojans earn a 73-62 win over Martensdale-St. Mary’s.

Thomas and Van Haalen each scored 23 points to lead the Trojans, as Pleasantville stayed perfect at 5-0; including a 3-0 mark in conference play. They’ll host Interstate-35 on Tuesday.
