A blocked desperation three-point shot preserved a hard-fought, low-scoring victory for the Central College men’s basketball team Sunday in Puerto Rico, as the Dutch edged Goucher College 53-52. Jacob Winkler made the game-saving block, helping the Central men to one of their best starts in program history at 8-1.

Playing in an open-air court with 80-degree temperatures seemed to affect the Central offense, as the Dutch shot just 29.9 percent for the game, including 4-of-20 from beyond the arc.

Matt Greenfield came off the Central bench to score a team-best nine points, while Jacob Winkler added 8 points, 9 rebounds.

The Central men will certainly need to play better today, when they play host Sacred Heart.
