After this weeks regular Pella City Council Meeting the Overland Property Group LLC presented a potential section 42 low cost housing development proposal to the council. Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News that at this point the proposal is preliminary, and there are still many steps to be taken on a state and local level before any actual contracts would be put forth. At this point the proposal was simply to ask for support from the City Council while applying for the state program. According to Nardini, every year there are approximately 50 projects like this are proposed to the state, and generally about a dozen are selected. Section 42 housing is generally targeted at people who are employed, but who fall below the median income level for the area. The City Council will act on the proposal at special council session to be set for a later date.
