Pella Christian’s basketball teams will make the short drive down Highway 163 to face Oskaloosa tonight. Lady Eagles’ head coach Kevin Van Maanen says he expects another physical match-up, and says his team’s focus is on themselves.

“It’s going to be another tough ball game, physically,” said Van Maanen. “We’ve got to do our things, though. We’ve got to make sure our girls come out focused again, and I think we just need to keep pushing the ball [on offense] and hopefully we can wear them [Oskaloosa] out.”

The Pella Christian girls sit atop the Little Hawkeye Conference with a 3-0 league record and have won seven straight games (7-1).

The PC boys, meanwhile, face an athletic and dangerous Oskaloosa team that seems to always save their best game for Pella Christian. Still, head coach Larry Hessing says his team is looking forward to playing on the Indians’ home floor.

“It’s a place that we really look forward to playing at, and some of our teams have played really well there in the past,” said Hessing. “Oskaloosa’s physical, they’re up in your face on the defensive end – they create that kind of pressure – and that’s always a hurdle that we need to overcome.”

The Pella Christian boys are 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, with Oskaloosa also 2-1 in league play. Both games will be broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS with Jamie Brockman providing the call. Coverage from Oskaloosa High School begins at 6:00 p.m. tonight.
