The Pella Christian girls used a huge second half surge to beat Oskaloosa 52-43 and run their win streak to eight straight last night.  After winning their last seven games by an average margin of 32 points, the Lady Eagles faced a stiff test from a much improved Oskaloosa team and found themselves trailing 24-14 at halftime.

The second half, though, was a different story as the Eagles caught fire; outscoring the Indians 18-8 to tie the game at 32 heading into the fourth quarter.  They kept the momentum with a 20-11 run to finish the game.

Christina Nolte erupted for 10 of her 13 points in the third quarter, including back-to-back three-pointers which seemed to get things rolling.  Sami Veenstra pulled down seven offensive rebounds and Jasmin Schelhaas led all scorers with 19 points – 13 of which came in the second half.

The win improves Pella Christian to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in LHC play.  They travel to crosstown rival Pella Friday night.

The boys game was just as thrilling as the Eagles fought to a 58-50 win.  After a  very tight first quarter and a half,  the Eagles defense intensified, allowing them to gain a 30-22 advantage at halftime.

Pella Christian didn’t slow down in the second half using a 15-8 third quarter run to build a 15 point lead after three quarters.  Oskaloosa cut the lead to four points midway through the fourth quarter, but the Eagles pulled away for the win.

Caleb Van Weelden led three Eagles in double figures with 16 points, Dan Hessing added 15 and Austin Vermeer scored 12.  Pella Christian improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in LHC play and travels to Pella Friday night.
