The Pella City Council met in regular session last night. They approved the renewal of several liquor licenses, the sale of a right of way, and a minor change order for the Sents Creek Wastewater treatment plant. After the regular session the council entered a Policy and Planning Meeting to discuss an economic development request, and a review of local purchasing policy. The council gave clear direction on the local purchasing policies for the city. They stated that for purchases within the city limits, a 5% credit, up to a maximum of $2,500 would be an acceptable increase. Outside the city limits, but within a 2 mile radius they decided a credit maximum of $1,300 at a lower percentage rate was preferable. The local buying credit is meant to help local businesses compete for city contracts and projects, to encourage the city to buy locally.
