Pleasantville sends both of its basketball squads on the road to Corydon tonight, as the Trojans face Wayne in Pride of Iowa Conference play.

The Pleasantville girls are 3-10 overall and sit in a tie with the Falcons at 2-7 in the league race. The Trojans claimed a 16-point victory when these two teams met in Pleasantville on December 6th.

The boys’ contest is key in the league race, as the Trojans are a game in front of the Falcons and trying to hold on to the second spot in the conference. Pleasantville boys head basketball coach Tom Wilkins says he expects Wayne to be more difficult to beat the second time around.

“Wayne’s playing well right now. They’ve got a big 6’4” kid by the name of Brent Banks that we had difficulty stopping in the first three quarters at our place [earlier in the season]. We switched up defenses and kind of pulled away a little bit [in that win],” says Wilkins.

“They’re going to throw a junk defense at us. We’ve been seeing a lot of box-and-ones, a lot of triangle-and-twos, [and] we’ve seen several 2-3 [zone defenses] where they double the post on Collin [Thomas] or Hunter [Van Haalen] every time.”

The Pleasantville boys claimed a 71-57 win in the early December contest between these two teams. Live coverage of both games will be streamed at kniakrls.com – starting at 6:15 p.m. tonight – with Colin McDonnell providing the call from Corydon.
