The long return trip from Diagonal to Melcher-Dallas was made much more palatable by the pair of victories the Saints brought home with them on Friday night, as they notched respective 39-17 and 63-42 wins over the Maroons.

The Melcher-Dallas defense pitched a near shut-out in the second half of the girls’ game, holding Diagonal to only one field goal in the final 16 minutes of play. Sydney Wilson’s 15 point, 9 rebound performance highlighted the night for the Saints, who improved to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the Bluegrass Conference.

The nightcap featured a balanced offensive attack for head coach Jim Wells, as Troy Lee and Kenneth Wadle each notched 13 points and Ross Dawson tallied 11 for the Melcher-Dallas boys in their 21-point win. The Saints are now 2-11 overall this season and notched their first league win to move to 1-4.

The Melcher-Dallas boys open Bluegrass Conference play Monday against Moulton-Udell; while the girls start their league tourney on Tuesday against Moravia.
