It’s National Eye Health Care Month, and there are many concerns about eye health related to winter. Dr. Jason Maasdam with Eye Health Solutions in Knoxville tells KNIA/KRLS News that dry eyes are very common in the winter due to the lack of humidity in the air. Maasdam says that their office sees lots of people with burning, tearing, or generally irritated eyes due to the dryness. Maasdam says depending of the severity of the irritation, solutions range from over-the-counter lubricants all the way to prescription medications or surgery to close the drainage ducts to keep the tears in.
