The postseason picture for our area Class 1A and 2A boys basketball teams was made clear earlier this week, as pairings were released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

As previously reported on KNIA/KRLS Sports, three Marion County area teams begin their respective postseason journeys in Class 1A District 14, with Melcher-Dallas, Pleasantville and Twin Cedars included in the 11-team field. The Trojans are the No. 1 seed, earning a first-round bye and playing the winner of Iowa Christian Academy and Martensdale-St. Mary’s on February 16th in Pleasantville. A win that night would set the Pleasantville boys up to face either Grandview Park Baptist or Southeast Warren on February 21st — again in Pleasantville.

In the lower portion of the bracket, Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars each face Bluegrass Conference opponents in the first round, and surprisingly enough, it won’t be each other. The Saints host Seymour on February 13th, while the Sabers are at home against Moravia. A Melcher-Dallas win would pit them against Wayne in Corydon on February 16th, while a Twin Cedars victory in the first round would advance the team to a date with Moulton-Udell on the same night.

If any of our local boys teams make their way out of Class 1A District 14, they’ll likely face Danville in the Substate Finals, who as of Wednesday night, has not lost a game this season.

In Class 2A District 13, it won’t be long before our two local teams in the bracket will face each other, as Pella Christian and PCM seemed destined for a rematch on February 16th in Monroe. The Mustangs have a first round bye and are the District’s top-seeded team. Pella Christian opens their postseason on February 13th against Albia in Pella. The winner of the District Semifinal in Monroe would likely face Davis County or Eddyville-Blakesburg in Ottumwa on February 21st.

Barring any upsets, the District 13 winner would face current unbeaten West Marshall in a Class 2A Boys Substate Final.
