The big football game Sunday provides a big spike at area grocery stores. Knoxville Hy-Vee Assistant Manager Aaron Hockom tells KNIA/KRLS News that they’ll see a lot of people in the aisles as they get ready for the big game. Sunday is considered to be one of the biggest house party nights of the year. Hockom says popular items in their store include chips, dip, pizza, wings, meat, and beer. Hockom also says that if you need avocados for guacamole, you should get them soon. Because so many are bought this weekend, ripe ones can be hard to find Sunday afternoon.

Scott Johnson, Pella Hy-Vee Manager says that this will be their biggest shopping weekend so far since the new year. He tells KNIA/KRLS News that in many ways the weekend is very similar to the summer holidays, but instead of burgers and hot dogs, people buy pizza and hot wings. Johnson says that this is the biggest week for frozen pizza sales almost every year.
