League-leading Simpson College gave the Central College women’s basketball team more than they could handle Wednesday night, handing the Dutch a 81-63 Iowa Conference setback in Pella; while the men’s game went the opposite direction, with Central dominating Simpson 81-57.

The women’s contest saw Central give up 26 turnovers and commit 25 fouls, and Simpson took advantage to the tune of 37 made free-throws. Guard Sarah Paulson had nine points and six rebounds to lead Central. The Dutch slip to 6-17 overall, and 1-13 in the Iowa Conference.

In the nightcap, the Central men were hitting on all cylinders, shooting a scorching 57.9 percent from the floor and holding the Storm to their lowest offensive effort of the season in the 24-point win. Up 37-29 at the intermission, the Dutch opened the second half with a 9-0 run and never let Simpson back in, leading by no less than 14 points the rest of the way. Demarco Turner led four Central players in double figures with 16 points. The Dutch are now 17-7 overall and 8-7 against league opponents.

Both Central College basketball teams will wrap up their regular seasons on Saturday afternoon with a pair of home games against Wartburg College.
