If you would have asked both Knoxville and P-C-M Football staffs if they were going to play each other again after last season, they both would have said an emphatic no. It is not that they dislike each other…actually quite the opposite as Knoxville’s Troy Rider and P-C-M’s Greg Bonnett both were assistants at Dowling Catholic before coming to their respective schools and became close friends while with the Maroons. Rider said after he found out Bonnett got the job at P-C-M both coaches agreed after the 2011 season that they would not play each other…because Rider said he just does not like playing someone who he considers one of his best friends. But the when the Iowa High School Athletic Association released the 2012/2013 schedules there was the Highway 14 Rivalry. Rider says both he and Bonnett are not thrilled at the situation, however the schedule-makers put the two together in week one this fall. Knoxville went 2-7 last season while P-C-M went 11-1 in Bonnett’s first year at his alma-mater. The game this season will be played in Monroe on August 24th.
