Knoxville Girls Hold Off Late Albia Surge

The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad needed every one of their 43 points to outlast Albia last night 43-41. The Panthers had a seven point lead with five minutes remaining in the game, but Albia kept chipping away at the Panther lead. However big free throws by the two freshmen in Meredith Cunningham and Taylor Carter pushed the Panthers over the hump. In fact Cunningham scored six of her game high 14 points in the final frame and went four-for-four at the line. Carter got what would turn out to be the game clinching free throw with 14 seconds left. Coach Jim Utiermarkt said the younger players are beginning to show what they can do. Hanna Rosenkranz put in eight points to help Knoxville’s cause while Carter had seven. Knoxville is now 4-15 on the season and will host Norwalk tonight in a varsity double header with the boys. You can hear the play-by-play on AM 1320 KNIA at six.
