PCM Boys Preparing for Toughest Task of the Season without Top Scorer

The PCM boys basketball team continues its preparation for their upcoming Substate Final, and the Mustangs aim to be ready with OR without their star player. Leading scorer and rebounder Scott Bruxvoort rolled his right ankle at the end of the first quarter of Tuesday’s District Final win over Davis County and did not play the rest of the night. PCM head coach Fred Lorensen said he’s trying to prepare his team to be ready to play in Saturday’s Substate Final, and is hoping for the best for Bruxvoort.

“I just feel bad for Scott. He’s a really nice player for us, and of course just got back from his left ankle being hurt, and now he hurts his other one. Obviously we’re a lot better team when he’s playing, too, so it’s a lot of concern for us,” said Lorensen. “I told our kids if we have to play without him, we have to play without him. We certainly don’t want to, but we’ll see how he gets along. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looked like maybe it was and he’ll be able to be back with us.”

His status for Saturday’s final is likely a game-time decision, but at least his teammates are familiar with this situation. PCM picked up some key victories in the final weeks of the season with Bruxvoort out with an injury to his left ankle, which he had hurt in practice. The Mustangs have won 17 straight games entering Saturday night’s Class 2A Substate Final, where they’ll face a West Marshall squad that has not lost a contest all season long. Tip-off of the game will be at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night at Ankeny High School’s new gymnasium.
