The Marion County Board of Supervisors will consider adding a more complex alarm system to county-owned buildings. Currently, the Courthouse is the only building that has an alarm system set up that automatically contacts authorities if a fire breaks out when no one is in the building. It also has panic buttons that contact authorities if someone becomes threatening, which county staff says has been useful. The board initially discussed the system for the Public Health Building, but other county buildings were also brought up. Such a system could prevent fires from becoming too large before being noticed.
