As their respective regular seasons wind down, the varsity basketball teams from Pella Christian and Pella High meet tonight for the second and final time this season. The girls’ contest features a Pella Christian squad that appears to be in postseason form, carrying a 15-2 overall record and an unblemished 10-0 conference mark into tonight’s contest with the Lady Dutch. Still, Lady Eagles’ head coach Kevin Van Maanen says nothing about the match-up with Pella High will be easy.

The Pella Christian girls won the first meeting 59-39. The Pella High girls enter tonight’s game with an 11-8 overall record and are 7-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Of course tonight is more than just a basketball game between the crosstown rivals, as it’s also the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game. This year’s campaign has been built around constructing what is being called the “Wall of Hope”, something Little Dutch head coach Mark Core says he’s excited about.

Bricks are available for purchase at either Pella Christian or Pella High today during school hours, and will also be available at Pella Christian High School prior to tonight’s games. The Pella High boys claimed a 76-64 win over the Eagles when the two teams met earlier this season, and are 11-6 overall and 8-2 against Little Hawkeye Conference teams. The Pella Christian boys are 11-6 on the season and 6-4 in the conference.

You can hear tonight’s varsity basketball games broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS and on kniakrls.com with Eric Gotschall providing the play-by-play. Coverage from Pella Christian High School will begin at around 6:00 p.m.
