The mild winter has many people already thinking about their garden this spring. Those green thumbs may be aware that a new plant hardiness zone map was recently released by the USDA. Marion County Extension Program Director Dale Miller says that Marion County now resides in range 5B, reflecting warmer average temperatures over the past 30 years. He says that when you purchase plants, many have the appropriate zones they can be grown in listed. Miller notes that you should also use common sense. The maps are a guideline, and winter temperatures can still vary greatly from year-to-year.
