Central College’s Annie Sarcone is the Iowa Conference Softball Position Player of the Week. Sarcone hit .452, going 14-for-31 as the Dutch compiled a 9-1 record at the Tucson Invitational Games last week. The shortstop slugged .903 and had five doubles and three home runs. She also scored 11 times and drove in 12 runs; while posting five multiple-hit games and also had 22 assists on defense.

It’s the first time Sarcone, a sophomore and a 2011 first-team all-league pick, has been honored. She’s batting a team-high .489 for the season with five home runs and 18 RBIs. The Central College softball team competes in the Washington-St. Louis Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The ninth-ranked Dutch are 14-2 overall and open the tournament against Fontbonne Saturday in St. Ann, Missouri.
