A pair of beloved former Pella High School administrators will be recognized by the Iowa High School Athletic Association during Saturday’s State Boys Basketball Championships. Former Superintendent Mark Wittmer and former Athletic Director Bill VanHorn are each being presented Administrator Awards for their contributions to the success of Pella High’s athletic programs.

Wittmer was an educator for over 39 years, devoting the last 12 years of his career to Pella High School as their Superintendent, before retiring at the end of last school year. VanHorn, who also retired in 2011, began his time in Pella in 1988 as the high school’s physical education teacher and wrestling coach. He became the school’s Athletic Director in 1997. This December it was announced that VanHorn would be inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Director Hall of Fame, which will take place later this month.

Wittmer and VanHorn will be recognized during halftime of Saturday’s Class 3A Boys State Championship game, which is scheduled to begin at 6:05 p.m.
