Gladys Black Scholarship Available for Local Students

Posted By News On March 11, 2012 @ 6:22 am In Today’s Local News | Comments Disabled

The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has created a scholarship honoring a Marion County bird expert and nature lover. The Gladys Black Scholarship Fund will give out scholarships each year to Marion County residents or students who attend a Marion County High School. Applicants must be graduating seniors who plan to major in either a conservation or natural resources field in college.

Scholarships will range between $250-$1000. Applications are available at guidance offices in Marion County High Schools, and recipients may apply to renew the scholarship each year they are in college.

The funds for the scholarship comes from contributions that were used to purchase and protect the Gladys Black Bald Eagle Refuge. When money came in above and beyond the fundraising goal, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation used the funds to create an endowed scholarship honoring Gladys Black.

Applications should be mailed to:
Brent Hanna
1811 W. Madison
Knoxville, IA 50138

They can also be emailed to hannab@knoxville.k12.ia.us.

For more information on the scholarship, call Hanna at 641-842-2173.
