The Pella Christian girls golf team has begun their 2012 season very lean on numbers, but high on potential. Lady Eagles’ head coach Larry Hessing says with three returning juniors and a pair of newcomers, the team is yet to know where they’ll end up by season’s end.

“It will be interesting to see what kind of scores we can post. I think the freshman and sophomore girls we have on our team have some good potential, and so I look forward to seeing what kind of scores they can put up as well,” said Hessing.

“I’m not sure where we’re at in terms of team goals and individual goals – we need to discuss those yet. Our conference is tough at the top, especially with teams like Newton and Grinnell, and so it might be difficult to place highly in conference competition.

“We’ll just work on improvement – that’s always a big goal for us – and then the scores kind of are what they are and we’ll see where we finish.”

Pella Christian opens competition in the girls golf season on Tuesday with a meet hosted by Colfax-Mingo.
