Some fairly lofty accomplishments have been a bit of the norm in recent seasons for the Pella High girls track and field team, and the squad sees no reason they should lower their expectations for this spring. Lady Dutch head coach Dak Rasmussen says it’s always the team’s goal to win the Little Hawkeye Conference title – something he thinks his squad is certainly capable of again this season – and says his team is also looking to put a number of athletes on showcase in meets on the famed blue oval at Drake University.

“Our focus has always been to get as many events to [the State Meet] as possible, and to medal as many as possible. Sometimes that works out with the different District Championships – sometimes not. I think we’ve got the kind of girls where we can get multiple girls to State and hopefully we see some good placings there,” said Rasmussen. “We’ve also got the Drake Relays – for the sprinters especially – that’s always one of their goals is to try and qualify for Drake and do as well as possible.”

The Pella High girls track and field team opens outdoor competition on April 5th, when they take part in a meet at Nevada.
