The Knoxville City Council passed an updated job description for fire chief during their regular meeting on Monday. The position will now require a bachelor’s degree as well as at least ten years in administration in a fire department. City Manager Harold Stewart made that recommendation to the Council. He tells KNIA/KRLS News that the city will start advertising for the position this week. As applications come in, he plans on forming a committee consisting of city fire staff, a couple of local fire chiefs, and some local citizens to help make the decision. Stewart says he expects to start interviews in about four-to-six weeks.
