The Pella High girls basketball team is still in its decompression stage after a long and hard-fought season, but it won’t be long before the next crop of leaders for the Lady Dutch will begin the process of preparing for a successful campaign next winter. Pella High head coach Jerod Garland says offseason workouts have already been established, and the team will be deciding about attending a summer camp as well.

“We’re going to do a couple mornings a week, working out together. We’re going to try and have an open gym once a week to let some girls play five-on-five,” said Garland. “We’ll have our own camp this summer, and we’ll also go to a team camp, too, whether it’s Creighton, or Drake, or Central – the girls will pick that out soon. I know some of the younger girls will also be playing for the Iowa Lightning AAU team, which will also give them some good competition.

The Lady Dutch were 13-10 overall this season and 8-4 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, finishing second behind Pella Christian. They’ll be looking to fill spots on the Varsity roster that are being vacated by eight graduating seniors from this year’s squad.
