Central Men Win at Washington Track Invitational

The Central College men’s track and field team won the Washington University Invitational Saturday – bolstered by five event victories – while a partial Dutch women’s squad scored two individual wins to take sixth. The men’s contingent scored 164 points to capture the title in in the six-team field while the women’s squad scored 51 points in a nine-team field. North Central College won the women’s trophy with 114 points.

Central’s sprinters dominated the open events and relays on the men’s side. Central’s 4×100-meter relay team of Mitch Wagoner, Logan Danko, Kyle Wood and Allen Scovel placed first in a time of 41.76 seconds. Later, the 4×400 squad of Wood, Trevor Veach, L.J. Lipscomb and Clayton Fritz won in a time of 3:18.68.

Danko, Wagoner, and Veach finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 meters. Wood won the 400 meters, as well. Eli Horton won the 1,500 meters for the second week in a row in a personal-best time of 3:56.56. Tyler Crouse led the throwers with a win in the discus throw and a third-place showing in the hammer throw.

In the women’s portion of the meet, Felicia Coleman and Morgan Darrow each picked up a win for a partial women’s squad Saturday. Coleman took the 200 meters and also finished second in the 100 meters; while Darrow chipped in with a win the hammer throw and was runner-up in the shot put.

The Dutch will return to action next Friday and Saturday, April 13-14 at the Jim Duncan Classic at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
