Yesterday was Service Day at Central College. Classes were cancelled to give both the students and faculty a chance to work on community projects together. The projects aren’t limited to Pella, this year projects are going on in four counties across central Iowa. The college puts on this service day every year not just as a community building effort, but also to give back to community partners that have helped them in the past. Cheri Doane, Director of Community Based Learning says they had around 800 people officially signed up for their 80 projects so far. One project in Pella is Central’s Organic Garden. Two students at Central explain why they did in the garden yesterday. The food grown at the garden is used in the school’s cafeteria.
